THE SEXED BODY (2026)
In mid-2026 I began researching the topic of THE SEXED BODY, borrowing from the theoretical insights of Anne Fausto-Sterling and Natalie Angier; this investigation resulted in a series of aesthetic questions - which bodies are ‘worth’ depicting? Which bodies are we allowed to find ‘beautiful’, or even ‘realistic’?
I decided to depict THE SEXED BODY as a heterogenous collection of bones, tissue, organic matter that weighs and decays: the pieces executed as a result are a celebration of flesh beyond its traditional pictorial canon.
The SEXED BODY is a body that is born as it is made, made as it is born.
The SEXED BODY craves, carries, moulds, melts, rots, transforms, expands.
The SEXED BODY is never truly depicted as is: it can never escape the tyranny of the eye.
The SEXED BODY is a cage with a faulty lock - BREAK IN CASE OF EMERGENCY.
